Participants in Cape Coral's online
naming contest for our featured bald eagles selected
"George" and "Gracie" for the
pair. As you can see from the above picture, the
male eagle, George (left), is noticeably smaller
than his longtime mate, Gracie.
During the nesting season, “George
and Gracie’s Diary” will feature some
highlights of the birds’ activities. Please
check back to view the photos.

One of the eaglets takes a brief flying test.
3/1
One of the adults and the two eaglets appear
at the nest.
2/25
Rainy days and Wednesdays always get me down,
as G&Gs eaglets hunker during a rainstorm
2/23
George and Gracie’s eaglets are doing
well, and both birds are nearing the size of
the adults.
2/19
An eaglet tests its wings in preparation for
flight very soon.
2/17
As evidenced by this eaglet, George & Gracie’s
youngsters are almost the size of the adults.
2/12
The young eaglets get a meal from one of the
adults. Later in the day, George sits with one
of his eaglets
2/6
George has one eaglet silhouetted in front of
him and the other to his side. He then leans
in to care for one while the other eaglet watches
2/5
One of the eaglets begins testing its wings
for flight.
2/4
The young eaglets appear together early in the
morning and later in the day
2/3
Both eaglets are visible in these pics. In the
second pic, the adult is perched in-between
the two chicks as all three birds focus their
attention to the rear.
1/30
One of the adults creates some stirring within
the nest upon arrival. One of the eaglets’
head is visible among the nest’s twigs.
1/22
The head of one eaglet is barely visible as
Gracie leans in to check on the bird (1) and
then hovers over the nest watching her two young
ones (2). An afternoon view of George at the
nest (3).
1/19
George’s and Gracie’s eaglet pokes
its head from the confines of the nest in one
photo, while one of the adults keeps watch in
both pics.
1/13
One of the adult eagles tends to some unseen
young in the nest.
1/5
& 1/6 These morning and late afternoon pictures
show the birds in a position that probably confirms
that the eggs have hatched
12/26 One of the eagles appears to be sitting
higher in the nest and tending to the interior,
which may be an indication that the eggs have
hatched.
